A diabetic vision threatening condition associated with swelling (edema) is Diabetic Macular Edema (DME)
Treating Diabetic Macular Edema
Treatment considerations for DME are:
- Laser which attempts to close the swelling producing areas of the diabetic’s macula.
- Anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) solutions. This group of medications are injectables administered within the eye to prevent vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) from causing swelling.
